Internal Displacement caused by Environmental Degradations in Myanmar
- The environmental problems of climate change and natural disaster are projected to increase the internal displacement around the world. People who are displaced within their countries are legally protected by international and national humanitarian and human rights laws, as reflected in the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement 1998. The internally displaced persons are persons or group of persons who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence as a result of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters. In Myanmar, people who suffered the environmental problems have experiences on internal displacement in recent years. Focusing on the rights of internally displaced persons, sustainable human rights development shall be considered by the policy, laws and regulations.
